How to Use the iPark App in Chania, Crete
Get your copy now and unlock Chania’s secrets like a local!
It’s been over a year since the local municipality launched a new parking app that allows you to easily pay for your parking space in the city from your phone.
It’s the iPark Chania App. You do not need to be a resident to use it; the app is also easy for tourists.
Here, I will show you how to use the i-Park Chania App to pay for parking in Chania town, Crete, how the app works, and how to extend the parking time once you’ve paid for a given time slot. It’s easy and practical.
Even when more parking spots are still a primary need all year round, and locals are still waiting for them, this is probably the first step to a more organized parking system in Chania.
Download the iPark Chania App
The first thing you need to do is head to the App Store or Google Play, depending on your phone, and download the app on your phone. Below are the links to both platforms for your convenience.
To avoid the hassle, you can travel around Chania with the local public buses (blue buses). There’s more information in this guide to bus travel in Crete.
How to Use the iPark Chania App to Pay for Parking
Once you have downloaded the iPark Chania app, sign in with your social media account (Google or Facebook) or create a new account.
You will enroll your car (or rental car) with the plate number, as many cars as you want, and select the city (the only option you have is Χανιά – Chania).
Remember to introduce the plate number, you must use LATIN letters and not Greek letters.
Then, you will select the hours you plan to park (and minutes).
To top up the app wallet you can use your credit or debit card and select an amount to have enough money to pay for the parking time.
You will buy parking time and pay online through your account. If you purchase €10 or more in credit, you will get a 12% discount on parking fees.
As of January 2024, prices are €1 per hour and €0,30 per 30 minutes.

What Happens if You Need to Extend the Parking Time?
Got caught up at dinner, chatting with friends, or admiring the gorgeous sights of the old town? Worry not! You will receive a text message (and an e-mail if you choose that option) informing you that the parking time is about to expire.
You can either run to your car and leave or comfortably extend the parking time (by paying for extra time) from your I-PARK CHANIA App on the phone or tablet without any stress.
What Happens if You Don’t Have a Smart Device?
The municipality considered all visitors and citizens who do not use smartphones or prefer to pay for parking the old way. Parking time can be purchased from one of the many sale points in the city.
Different partner stores, such as kiosks and local periptero (Greek kiosks), minimarkets, OPAP agencies, and other shops, carry a special iPARK CHANIA app marking for you to identify them and purchase parking time.
The municipality has also published a list of places to purchase parking time in Chania if you don’t use a smartphone.
These are some of the periptera (kiosks) that sell parking time:
- 29, Kidonias Street, Chania Municipality
- 21, Archontaki Street
- 82, E. Venizelou Street
- 1866 Square
- 14, Daskalogianni Street
- 17, Dromonerou Street
- Agora Square on S. Venizelou Street
- 1, N. Foka Street
- Municipal Garden of Chania

- Box Cafeteria: 11, E. Venizelou Street
- Bits and Bytes: 2, Kiprou Street
- Everest Cofee Shop, 1866 Square
- Koraka 11: 11, Koraka Street
When to Use the iPark Chania App?
Paying for parking in Chania is necessary from Mondays to Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. If you park after 9 p.m., you won’t need to pay for parking (the app will update and tell you that your fee is €0.).
Parking is also free of charge on Sundays and public holidays.
Remember that with the iPARK CHANIA APP, you get a 12% discount on parking fees if you purchase more than €10 worth of parking time. Your maximum parking time is 4 hours, after which you will need to purchase more time (again, from your phone, no matter where in the city you are).
You will find more official information on the municipality website.

Hi Gaby, thank you for all the info you’re sharing about Chania! It has been very helpful. I do have a question about the ipark app We’ve left Chania but I still have an amount in my wallet. Can I get it refunded? Thanks in advance!
Thanks for the comments. I’m not sure you can get a refund, the safest bet would be to contact the local municipality.
